If you need a little wiggle room for your usage, this might not be what you're looking for. The unit I have is a little less than 25mm which makes fittings extremely tight. I have two other 25mm bits that do not have this issue (but their plunge depth is not as great since their shanks are much shorter). That being said, this works well, and the fact that the shank's end is triangular means your drill press will grip the bit much more securely compared to the circular bits of other cheaper ones.I ordered the tideway in 1-1/8 and a Steelex in 1-1/16. Both arrived together so I did a side by side comparison in a pine 4x4, cause that's what I had. The Steelex was slow and I felt it hit the smallest of knots, felt like a nail. When I pulled it out there was a chip in the blade. Then I tried the tideway. It cut faster, I didn't feel the knot, it expelled chips like a wood chipper, and left a much clearer hole. I am returning the Steelex and buying another tideway in 2-15/16" size. I plan to use them on my lathe to hollow things .The price! Wow! Cheap! I need one Forstner bit for one project, to use one time cutting a hole to mount a door latch in a sheet of tough 1/2" plastic. Tested it first on a piece of scrap 2x4. This Tideway bit cut cleanly, flawlessly, to the diameter as advertised--50mm. I used a drill press on clamped work, so if the center point is too shallow as noted by another reviewer, this did not affect my application. Now, here's the cautionary footnote: 50mm is NOT 1 -15/16". It's close, and maybe close enough, but 50mm is right at 1 - 31/32" which is 1/32" larger than the advertised English fractional diameter. In my application, this matters not--it's close enough. But, advertising the bit as 1 - 15/16" is a bit clever.I was hoping to use this bit on my lathe to drill out a hole to bore out a 5.5” deep hole in a wood turning. The bit’s shaft is 10 mm, slightly larger than a bit extender that is designed to fit a ⅜” shaft. It will fit in a ½” Jacobs chuck but that would not allow me to bore a deep enough hole on the lathe. It works on a drill press and bores a clean hole in wood, but if you need to go deep it will not fit extension shafts that are designed with #2 Morse tapers for a lathe. I went looking for a metric bit extender and the guy at the local tool store suggested taking the bit to a machine shop and have them shave it down. I bought a 1-1/16” forstner bit instead. Keeping this cutter just in case I have to drill a 28 mm hole some day that less than 2” or so deep. This bit needs a little longer center pilot. It really wants to wander until it cuts a wall. In a drill press it is fine. I made a guide to help me get it started when using a hand drill, and it works just fine once it has cut to a depth of 3/16" of an inch or so.I am working on a project using 1/2” electrical conduit fitting into holes drilled in wood. The outer diameter of the conduit is larger than a 5//8” bit and smaller than 3/4” is larger than 11/16” if a forstner bit was available in that size. But at .706”, the conduit is slightly smaller than 18mm (which is about ,709”) and a hole that size is a very nice fit.I admit this is a cheap large Forstner bit, these things routinely run 60$ or more at the local big box store. However this one has a bit of a design flaw. The center of the bit is just a little bit longer than the carbide tips, however its not enough. The center tore out of the pine I was drilling, allowing the bit to walk all over the place giving me an oval relief hole instead of a round one, with a lot of tare out. This might work in metal, or in hardwood, or some other setup. However it did not work for my current use. I am gonna keep it but it isn't built like your normal bigbox special which admittedly will cost you 5 times as much. The overall quality is fairly good. It really needs to be sharper, though. The bit got fairly hot drilling 3" holes in pine.Bought it for a specific project and successfully created the jig, I needed, with this. It made a nice clean hole without burning. This bit does not cut a straight holes but rather dances around and ruins the wood. Had to return it.Cut perfectly, edges were cut clean, no splintering. The bit did not wander when cutting though I used a drill press.BIt was delivered quickly from within Canada. It's a good quality and very sharp - cut my 125 holes perfectly!
